How I Wash My Brushes

How I Wash My Brushes

I’m still working on my write up about my Denver trip, but since I still have quite a ways to go, I thought I’d write a quick post about the most tedious thing ever…brush washing!

Look, no one likes to do it. But it’s a necessary evil. Why? Well because in my case I’ll start breaking out if I don’t do it regularly enough. But I won’t pretend that I’m diligent with this. I aim to wash my brushes once a month, but, if I’m being honest, I usually go at least 2 or 3 months between cleanings. So when I finally run out of clean brushes, and or I start breaking out, I clear my schedule to undertake the task of washing them all.

So here’s what I use:

Baby shampoo – I’ve tried several cleansers, including some designed specifically for cleaning brushes. But I’ve found that baby shampoo is just as effective, and often times, cheaper. I figure it’s gentle enough to not damage the bristles of my synthetic brushes.

Brushegg – This little thing has been a game changer. I originally bought it at the recommendation of one of my favorite YouTube guru’s, EmilyNoel83, and boy, this cheap little thing has been a great investment. It isn’t anything revolutionary, but the ridges really help get my brushes thoroughly clean with less effort on my part. I bought this on Amazon for a whopping $2.89. But I noticed that Ulta is offering the exact same product for $5.00.

So using warm water, I scrub each brush and rinse until the water runs clear, which takes a little extra effort with my foundation brushes. After I’m done with that, I squeeze out as much water as I can, re-shape the bristles, and then set them out to dry overnight.

And that’s about it! Simple enough, if a little tedious.

My Winter Makeup Essentials

My Winter Makeup Essentials

Winter (or what approximates Winter in North Texas) is my favorite time of the year for several reasons, one of which being that my face won’t melt off due to the Texas heat. So I wear a little more makeup than I do during the summer. Plus, I love the deep, rich colors that are so popular during this time of year. So here are the products I’ve been using consistently for the past two months or so.

That about sums it up! Thank you for reading!
